Vero –  „New Instagram “?

 

 „Vero “(truth) is currently the word of the week. All bloggers, influencers and media are talking about this social media app. First on Instagram, then on Facebook, more and more of my „friends “have said: „Join me on Vero “so I have decided to create an account.

 SO, WHAT IS VERO – True social?

Vero is a social media app, first launched in 2015, so it`s not all that new but its popularity is. It can be downloaded in Apple App Store and Google play for free. First one million downloads are free for life as Vero claims, after that there is an annual fee which they claim will be the price of „ a couple of cups of coffee “. Vero says that annual fee means it won`t have to rely on advertisers, so no selling information about you on third party companies, which is fair trade, if you ask me.

WHAT MAKES VERO DIFFERENT?

IT ISN`T ABOUT GROWING FOLLOWERS

Vero reminds me on Instagram at the first sight, but with the slightly different structure and design, dark shades dominate. You can share pictures, videos, links, music, movies, books and location on your profile. All posts are displayed chronologically by time or publication date. Unlike Instagram there is fair delivery of content. This means that in the Vero app, the algorithm is currently not playing a big role which is tremendous advantage. At least that`s how I feel. Vero doesn`t use ads, so the app does not have to figure out what I`m supposed to be interested in and doesn`t filter any content. This setting represents a solution to the annoying Instagram algorithm. By eliminating the algorithm, the user sees everything that someone has posted or shared. So, to answer the question: why it is blowing up this week, most likely, it`s a matter of everybody getting fed up with Instagram`s algorithmically feed, and also converting oder people`s friends into networking effect.

How to connect with people? Similar to Facebook you can create different groups from close friends to followers and adjust your audience for posts.

Also, there is possibility to edit images or to use filters.

Now, to register you have to provide name, email address and cell phone to join. Cell phone must be real so that you can confirm your account. Vero says it will never share your email address or phone number.

PROBLEMS

Vero sudden popularity has been too much for the app to handle, causing many issues which they should probably fix soon but it already caused some negative reviews in the App Store. So, question remains how much time is Vero going to take to resolve those problems with its continued growth.

WHAT VERO`S POPULARITY MEANS FOR BRANDS

The question is: Can Vero survive without adjusting to ad model? Vero is great for influencers and small companies as they cannot afford paid promotions on Instagram or Facebook. If they post more frequently followers will see all content on the time of posting. Also, companies can post a product catalog and use a seventh category, product post. In online shops within the app, products can be distributed directly. The „product posts “can only be seen by following a brand. So, the danger of disturbing users with advertising is much lower. This level of advertising makes Vero significantly different from Facebook and Instagram. As the Vero manifesto states, the balance between user interests and platforms has been lost. Vero wants to restore that balance.

Whether it is a real alternative for other social media remains to be seen. It’s advisable to wait until first hype is through, then it will become clear whether the app will be sustainably successful.
