How Are Fashion Shows Changing The World
In the last 50 years, the world has changed a lot. One of the biggest changes is the growth of technology. Technology allowed people to connect with one another, talk but also allowed them to show their opinions, their thoughts, disagreement and even create movements and campaigns to fight for their rights. Many people and also celebrities use their social media to talk about very important matters, like woman equality, LGBT community, sexual harassment and the political world. But as people and celebrities use their social media to make a change, designers from the fashion world use their clothes, and fashion shows to make an impact.

Last year when there was the election of the president of The United States, many designers showed their political side on their fashion shows. Big designers like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and others designed ˝I’m with Her˝ t-shirts in which they showed their support for democrat candidate Hillary Clinton. After the win of President Donald Trump, not everyone was content with the new president. New York Fashion Week designer Prabal Gurung made a collection about his opinion of the political world. Many of his shirts had a sign: “The Future is Female” or “I am an immigrant.” In which he sent a strong message. But this wasn’t the first time designers used fashion shows as a tool for making a change. For example in the 80s designers tried to raise awareness for AIDS, many famous designers supported the cause such as Calvin Klein, Versace and many more.

One of the recent changes and powerful movements is especially the ME TOO campaign, which started in October 2017 and spread through a hashtag over social media. After many sexual allegations from people in the film industry, celebrities decided to make a difference. The movement was followed by a campaign TIME IS UP in which celebrities dressed all black on red carpets to show support and to stop sexual harassment and any kind of form of violence. The movement soon spread worldwide.
