Dîner en Blanc- perfect PR phenomenon

Advertisements

Some of you may ask yourself… I`am bringing my own food, table, tablecloths, drinks and I have to pay an amount of money to even join the party. These people must be crazy but…

Diner en Blanc has to be world’s most famous PR creation.

It all started in 1988. When François Pasquier invited his friends to attend outdoor diner at Bois de Boulogne he told them to dress in all white so they could find each other easier. Today, they are world wide event which occurs in more than 70 cities in 35 countries.

This is so popular that there is a waiting list: „Some cities have long waiting lists. Philadelphia, for example, which hosts the second-largest event in the U.S. and the fourth-largest in the world, last year saw more than 30,000 people vying for 5,000 seats“ Forbes states in an article.

I think this is to most interesting thing, a global phenomenon. You do not know exact location where it is going to be held, you must be dressed in white and bring your own things, and jet so man people what to come. This is the perfect example of PR hype around some event. To make people interested in something they know very little about and keeping them intrigued. Even the organizers are keped unknown. The media is attracted to this event that they write and try to guess on what location is it going to be held, what famous people will be there and what will they wear. In addition, other people create buzz on social media and people are easily drawn on to things like this.

I think Diner en Blanc is perfect use of PR tools and techniques and something like this is hard to surpass.
