PROMOTING THE 189TH CARNIVAL IN SAMOBOR

Fašnik is one of the oldest carnivals held in Croatia (Samobor) every year. It last two weeks between mid-January and mid-February and brings up people together from whole around Croatia dressed up in their favorite characters. It’s last day falls on a Tuesday with an unusual ritual. By ”burning” the head of the prince on the main square, citizens of Samobor believe that all negativity will fly away to ensure that the year ahead of us begins in a positive, enlightening tone. During the Carnival, the city of Samobor is renamed into Srakoland in order to make the festival feel more realistic.
