7th April: National Beer Day

As everyone knows, the ideas for marking something started in America. As it is almost every day marked something, so on April 7, in United States, marks the day of beer called National Beer Day. This day is marked in order for the people to recall the Cullen-Harrison Act. This is the name of the act that allowed people to consume, buy and sell alcoholic beverages containing 4% of alcohol.

Beer is an alcoholic beverage made from yeast, hops, water and malt, which can be wheat, barley, fern or some other kind. It is one of the oldest drinks used in Egypt, and today it is a widely known drink all over the world.

Before 1920 beer was banned in America as well as other alcoholic beverages. Only when Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act, beer has become legally drink in the country. It happened on April 7, 1933, but only 76 years later, two men named Justin Smith and Mike Connolly declared the National Beer Day. They made a Facebook page together and invited people to like, join or follow the page. Story expanded quickly and soon became April 7 the National Beer Day.

The best celebration this day is to enjoy a multitude of different beer tastes. Today the streets are full of pubs and other cafes serving all kinds of beers. Of course, with beer you should not forget to consume food. Most beer goes well with any food. A combination of food and beer today is part of a gastronomy where gourmets enjoy a digestive blend of flavors, smells and aromas.

Some other states celebrate and mark this day, but not at the same date. For example, Iceland marks National Beer Day on March 1st and the United Kingdom on June 15th.

It is very interesting fact that beer is the most conspicuous drink in the world after water and tea. Furthermore, the country with the highest beer drink is the Czech Republic, but Belgium is the country with the largest number of beers. Today, there are around 400 kinds of beers in the world. The largest beer festival in the world is known as the Oktoberfest, and is held every year in October in Munich, Germany. It lasts 16 days and is visited by over six million people from all over the world. So, despite America being the creator of everything, Europe keeps record of the beer industry.
