Many people have the misconception that Public Relations is just about party planning, attending events and travelling the world with celebrities. However, in reality PR is very different and involves a wide variety of roles and responsibilities.

‘The Samantha Syndrome’ refers to the way PR professionals are depicted in movies and its name comes from the character, Samantha Jones in the TV series Sex and the City.

While partying it up in New York City certainly sounds fun, there’s a lot more to the world of PR than how you see it on TV. I’m going to introduce you to the “behind the scenes” of public relations.

Samantha Jones (actress Kim Cattrall) portrayed PR in a fairy tale like way to make the show more appealing to the audience. Because who would care for a stressed out publicist who doesn’t even have time for herself? If you’re having doubts about your career choices, you need to ask yourself – would I be doing this if it wasn’t for the money?
